Adventures at The 99cent Store

03 Feb

It’s time to admit it ladies, we have all been dollar store snobs at one time or another.  I’ve decided to write this article as an eye opener to the value you can receive by shopping carefully at your local 99cent store.

The most common question I hear from people is “Isn’t the food old and expired?” The answer is…sometimes it is.  This is where simply looking at the expiration dates on the package comes in very handy.

In today’s haul, I was able to find a lot of our families favorite food items for .99 cents or less.  This store does not take coupons, so be aware of your prices.  There may be times when waiting for a sale at another store and matching up that item with a coupon may bring you a deeper discount. So, educate yourself, and be in the know.

Here is a list of all the items I purchased today:

  • Philidelphia Cooking Cream Cheese
    • Purchased 6 for .99 each
    • Priced elsewhere for approx.: $2.50
  • Yoplait Trix Yogurt 6 pack
    • Purchased 2 for .99 each
    • Priced elsewhere for approx.: $1.79

  • Chocolate Truffles Candy Valentines
    • Purchased 4 for .99 each
    • Priced elsewhere for approx. : .99
The total for this trip, without coupons was only $36.33.  Had I shopped elsewhere, without coupons, it would have averaged out to approximately 69.02.  That is about a 53% savings without coupons, for a shopping trip that consisted of a large amount of FRESH FOOD items that normally have no coupon available.
So what is the moral of this story ladies?  Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try some place new to shop.  If you are short on fresh veggies, and you don’t want to pay the retail price, check out your local .99cent store for some really great deals.
Thank you for visiting The Katy Coupon Zone, blogged from Katy, TX…a.k.a, God’s Country.  Happy couponing…and stay in the ZONE!
