Hey gang, I have had the most rude awakening this week. I pulled out a box of pasta, and noticed a little pile of what looked like powder on my shelf. It was about a teaspoon full, right in front of the box. My first thought was the kids must have spilled flour and didn’t clean it up, then I opened the box. The pasta was full of holes, and little black specks. Then I saw it move!! After getting completely grossed out, I quickly dumped it into the garbage disposal and chopped that garbage up, bugs and all. Now after a few minutes of research, I found that the bugs were boll weevils. BOLL WEEVILS! In my clean beautiful pantry! I have no idea how they got there, other than they must have been in the package already. So, now I have to treat my entire pantry as if it has been infested, and check EVERYTHING! So, you will not see any posts from me today, other than the one I found on eHow, regarding Boll Weevils and how to avoid them as well as get rid of them. This is going to take quite some time, because I have a rather large pantry…well, two rather large pantry’s. Now I’m going to have to do research on long term storage for the food I purchase. Any pointers?

BTDT. HATE it. We actually moved our stockpile to our utility room for this reason, because we can’t seem to get rid of them from the pantry (even had our exterminator spray in there).

Oh Alli, that is NOT good news! I think I am going to bleach everything down, recaulk all of the shelving, wipe down all the boxes and canned goods, then use a gel style pest control in every nook and cranny. This is awful!

Hey Krystle, that’s a great idea, however, I have everything that has been opened already in Tupperware, and that is A LOT of Tupperware! Haha!. This was the unopened box of pasta that was affected. I have way too many unopened boxes to try and get them all in Tupperware. So, I need to find a way to get rid of the bugs and keep them out.

My mom has always said to put dried bay leaves in my cabinets to ward off the pesky guys, it has worked but I don’t always remember. I do know that keeping your extra wheat products in the freezer is a sure way to keep this from happening.

Hi Stephanie, this is the second time I have read this about bay leaves. So, I am off to the store to buy a bunch. How many do you think I would need? And for the freezer…it’s too full to put anything else in there. I guess it’s a good problem to have in any other situation.
